Music for Special Kids

Pamela Ott is my guest. Pamela is a Musician, Mother, Board Certified Music Therapist and believer in music’s ability to encourage, enhance and assist in a child’s development. Since Music Therapy is out of the reach of many children that could truly benefit from it and music programs have been reduced due to budget cuts, she makes regular posts with music, activity and instrument ideas for parents, therapists and educators in the hope that it will encourage the use of more music in the education and development of children!

This music and these activities are designed for use with all children whose developmental ages range from approximately 2 – 6 (some activities can be modified to include even higher or lower ages), including those with developmental disabilities such as autism, Down syndrome, cerebral palsy, sensory disorders and more. Most children love music and music is an excellent way to engage them, increase the retention of information presented, increase interaction, stimulate communication skills and stimulate motor skills and coordination.

– Pamela Ott has over 20 years of experience using Music Therapy in the treatment of individuals with developmental disabilities, including working as the Director of Music Therapy at the UCP of Southern Arizona. She has released nine albums of music for use with children with special needs, and she writes a popular blog at www.musicforspecialkids.com. She resides in Flagstaff, Arizona.
