Automotive and assembly line industrialist Henry Ford said “Whether you think you can or think you can’t, you are right.” It can be tough to keep a positive mindset, but it’s so important! Your mindset determines how your day will go and what you will accomplish today.
So how do you develop and keep a positive mindset?
- Notice what your thoughts are currently. Don’t judge them, just notice them. You might bring them to your awareness by saying them out loud, recording them, or writing them down.
- Develop a mantra to use whenever you need to replace a negative thought. I’ve used some favorite quotes or just a phrase. You can also use the opposite of what the negative thought was. For example, you just made a mistake and said internally, “That was so stupid!” You can then notice that negative thought, and replace it with, “I am a smart and loving person.”
- Listen to music with positive messages. Some of my favorites are “Who Says” by Selena Gomez & the Scene, “You’re Beautiful” by James Blunt, and “The Way You Look Tonight” by Frank Sinatra.
Try these for a week and see how it works for you. Remember: attitude is a choice, so pick a good one!
