F is for Family (and balancing it with your career)

Continuing the A-Z blogging challenge, I often get asked about balancing family and career. Even though I wrote some posts about routines for work and family (see the list below for links),  I recently (and frequently) run into difficulties with this.

My husband and I currently share child care responsibilities throughout the week, rather than using a day care or nanny. It’s tough, because it can mean we rarely see each other as he comes home so I can leave for work, then I come home so he can leave for work. And it doesn’t always work for us to alternate appointments. This week we’re having to make babysitting arrangements a couple of days because of conflicting appointments.

Also, ever since the week of conference, I’ve been out of my regular routine, both at work and at home, so I feel like my life has been chaotic, and my house reflects that. The nice thing about routines is that you can start them over any time, which is what I’m doing this week. And you can adjust them to make sure they continue to work for you and your family, also what I’m doing this week.

I think I’ll use some music to help with my reboot this week. I’ll change up my workout to include more music. I’ll have some music playing in the background while I pick up toys around the house. And maybe I’ll listen to some music instead of watch TV when I get home from work tonight.

Here’s my previous posts on work and parenting balance:
